Who doesn’t love having a water feature or pond in their yard? Not only can they help eliminate stress but they are relaxing. Maintaining one’s water feature is a must and not all homeowners that put in a water feature realize the amount of work that comes with owning a water feature. Water inside the water feature is the main factor that an owner needs to keep an eye on. The fish and water plants depend on that water for their nutrients and oxygen, and they need it to be clean. If one cannot commit to cleaning the water once every few weeks or once a month then one may need to determine if they can handle a fish pond. A homeowner needs to realize the commitment that it takes. Allow for some free time to maintain one's pond.
Removing all of the water is not always a must, removing partial amounts of the water will work. One can either choose to remove the fish as they clean it, or they can leave them, but removing the fish is a good idea. Depending on the amount of fish one has put them in water or another container while the pond is being removed. Remove all algae, dying plants, leaves or anything else that may be in one’s pond. Allowing these to rest in the pond can harm the fish. Once the pond is cleaned and the water level is low this is a prime time to inspect one’s liner, pump, filters and anything else in one’s pond. It is the time to replace items or fix them. Once everything is inspected and cleaned add new water and then place the fish back in place. If we the homeowner can keep our home up to date, why not keep the fishes home up to date as well?
